First Tools

Purple Butterflies are hard at work.
Little Gate Purple Butterflies have been hard at work making and creating sensory bottles for the classroom. The first tools young children use to express themselves are hands. What better way to use these tools, increase fine motor skills, hand eye coordination and self expression than in a hands-on fashion? Using their own thoughts and ideas, each purple butterfly created an individual sensory bottle. These works of art were constructed by filling recycled bottles with a wide variety of loose parts, including colorful straws, colored yarn, ribbons, pipe cleaners, and even incorporating nature by using sticks and leaves. Each purple butterfly examined the options carefully before making a decision. It is always interesting to see the materials each child is drawn to and the problem solving involved when putting the loose parts inside the bottle. Now while at play at the light table, the purple butterflies  enjoy exploring each friend’s creation.
