The Ducks have been having a wonderful time outdoors. We have been playing soccer in the green grass, creating trains and "silly boats" on the deck, and even took some time to clean our machine on side of the Bradish Johnson House.
The Ducks have decided to wrap up our machine project. We documented some last thoughts on why the machine is not working. The Duckies feel that the machine lacks energy and have some ideas on how to fix the problem.
1) The use of more light bulbs to give it energy
2)The use of batteries to give it energy
3)The use of water to give it energy
4)Build a robot to fix the machine
These amazing theories will be held as possibilities for other classes to explore or the Ducks to explore at a later date. The machine will be brought back into our classroom where the children will have access to it. Throughout the rest of the year, if they choose to add paint or machine parts, they will be welcome to do so. We have also created a fabulous book documenting our Journey to the Shirnking Machine.
This week, we took a visit to the tree stump. The children have shown lots of interest in the stump and have different ideas of it's use: what happened to the rest of the tree, will it grow back, and decorating it with nature designs. New today, we found "sticks" (roots only attached at one end) stuck in the ground. "Why are they stuck?" was the popular question. We are looking forward to the upcomming weeks. It will be exciting to see what new themes and projects emerge from this or other interests.
