Ruby Elephants

Ms. Sarah and Ms. Kelly

The Ruby Elephants have been busy with their rulers, tape measures, scales and balances.  They have really enjoyed our unit on measurement and we were so excited to see the creativity come out from this unit.  We measured all around the room with our rulers to see what different things were a foot long and if they were taller or shorter than a foot.  We measured each other using markers and found out quickly that most of our elephant friends are about 7 or 8 markers tall!  We also enjoyed taking the seashells, rocks, crayons and other small items from the room to see what was heavy and what was light.  We even all hopped up on a scale to see how much we each weigh!

We are looking forward to our next unit as well.  As the city has become fully decked out for Mardi Gras, the children are all abuzz with the excitement of the season and all of the fun events going on in the community.  We will be celebrating our own ‘Ruby Gras' here in the Ruby room with our elephants and working on many fun projects, yummy recipes and maybe even a parade …the Rubies have many ideas of how they like to celebrate. (A favorite has been our weekly king cake days-YUM!)  We will be talking about different New Orleans traditions as well as inviting a few guests in to read and/or help us cook some authentic New Orleans dishes!  We know it will be a fun few weeks of celebrating this NOLA tradition!
