The Fireflies have been exploring a unit on Listening and also experimenting with using tin cans to create a "phone." Since the children were so interested in this, the teachers asked the fireflies what different types of materials they could use other than tin cans that would help them to hear. Some ideas were wire, rubber, plastic, rope, cups, metal and pretzels!
To help them better explore these materials, they paired with Mr. Shaw and his 9th grade Physics students to try them out. The girls gathered all of the materials, made some practice ones and came to try them out with the Fireflies. After testing out the models, they found that the plastic Mardi Gras cups connected by a thin rope was the winner!
This collaborative experiment was a huge hit and success with students of all ages!
